Mental Health Awareness: 2018, when I loved drugs more than myself.

I'm awkwardly pretending to have fun.

Coke and MDMA hanging out of my mouth.

Today, I see that photo differently. It shows a man:

- Lost in pain

- Scared of being judged

- Feeling completely worthless

By 2021, I took control.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗜 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝟯 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀.

1. 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳

- I wrote daily about my thoughts and feelings

- This helped me recognise patterns and triggers

- I used a feelings wheel to better identify my emotions

2. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁

- Therapy was tough but crucial

- It forced me to face my vulnerabilities

- This was the most important step in my growth

3. 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳

- Hiding parts of myself fuelled my addiction

- Being honest about who I am brought freedom

- (Have the courage to be disliked)

Addiction is stigmatised, making it harder for those struggling to seek help...

→ We hide

→ We suppress

→ We subjugate 

Which only worsens the problem...

To anyone struggling with addiction, remember this: 

𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳.

- Your pain

- Your quirks

- Your dreams

The lot...

It’s crucial for breaking free.
